Nominate your “recycling hero” for 2021 award

“Recycling is an essential industry” is the key message of this year’s Global Recycling Day, which takes place on March 18.

The Global Recycling Foundation is appealing for nominations for the Recycling Hero 2021 award from individuals to business leaders, sole traders to multinational businesses, communities, towns and cities that have continued to recycle actively during the Covid-19 crisis.

All entrants will have a chance to win a $500 prize, and the winners will feature on the Global Recycling Day social media channels. Ten recycling heroes representing the various continents of the world will be chosen as the winners.

Ranjit Baxi, founding president of the Global Recycling Foundation, said: “We want to champion Recycling Heroes during a challenging year and encourage the world to recognize the critical importance that recycling makes to the preservation of our planet.”

The Foundation was set up in October 2018 to fund educational and awareness programmes, innovation initiatives that focus on the sustainable and inclusive development of recycling across the world.

“The role of the Foundation is to show the world that recycling is a collective endeavour, crucial for the future of the planet.” Mr Baxi said.

“No-one can act in isolation, and it is imperative we engage the widest population possible, from BIR members to world leaders, businesses to individuals – no matter where they are located.”

The awards competition will be launched via social media, and Global Recycling Foundation will shortly announce details about how to nominate your #RecyclingHeroes 2021.
