How to order: Skip Hire Sheffield

×

The process of hiring a skip can be unnerving if you’ve never had to hire one before. We understand that it can be confusing to know what size skip you’ll need and what waste you’re allowed to put into it. So, to make the process easier, we’ve chosen some of our most frequently asked questions and put them into a list of how to order: Skip Hire Sheffield.

Where can you hire a skip in Sheffield?

When ordering a skip with Fletchers, our skip hire areas cover South Yorkshire, including Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Chesterfield. Our offices are based in Sheffield, and we have our own facility where your skip waste will be brought to, segregated and recycled.

What size skip should you hire?

What size skip you’ll need depends on the type of rubbish you’ll be disposing of and how much of it there will be. As you go through our skip hire journey, you’ll be able to enter an estimate of the amount of bin bags your waste equates to. This handy tool will then select the best size skip for you.

A 4-yard skip is ideal for most driveways, and we recommend it for small home improvement projects and garden clearances.

A 6-yard skip is perfect for domestic clearances, including soil and rubble.

An 8-yard skip is often referred to as Builders Skip and is the biggest size skip that can go on the road with a permit from the council. It is one of the most popular skip sizes people order and is perfect for projects such as building extensions and large house clearances.

Although specific-sized skips are often known as ‘builders skips’, it doesn’t mean they are just for builders. This just means they are most commonly used in the construction industry as they’re the perfect choice for the weight and waste type they’re getting rid of.

For information on all sizes, take a look at our skips.

What waste can you put in a skip?

We are able to accept most types of waste in our skips, but there are some items that you will need to make us aware of before booking. This is so we can arrange the best disposal method for this waste type, and there may be an extra charge that we will discuss with you first. Please always contact us if you are unsure what you can put into a skip, and we will be happy to help. To make life easier, below are items that cannot go into a skip without making us aware beforehand:

  • Asbestos
  • Batteries
  • Clinical, Medical, or Human Waste
  • Fridges/Freezers
  • Upholstered furniture
  • Electrical items
  • TVs
  • Computer monitors
  • Laptops
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Food waste
  • Gas tanks or cylinders
  • Aerosols
  • Liquids
  • Gasoline
  • Paint or Paint Cans
  • Plasterboard
  • Glues and Solvents
  • Tyres
  • WEEE Waste
  • Hazardous/Toxic Materials
  • Tree roots

How high can you load a skip?

When you hire your skip in Sheffield or South Yorkshire from Fletchers Waste, you will notice ‘Load Level’ on the sides of our skips. When loading your skip, it should not be filled above the height of its sides and should be level loaded. Our drivers can decline collections if the skip is not level-loaded, and a wasted journey charge may be applied. Skips must be level loaded because it's illegal for us to drive with overloaded skips on our wagons. It increases the weight and risks of waste falling out of the skip onto the roads when returning to our facility.

How much is skip hire in Sheffield?

How much your skip will cost will depend on multiple factors. For example, each skip size will vary in price depending on how big it is and what waste will go into it. Larger skips are more expensive, and extra items, including mattresses, are often likely to incur an additional charge. The price of a skip will also depend on where you are located. That is why our prices depend on your postcode, and we get you to enter this at the start of our skip hire journey so that a price can be quickly calculated. If you do not have private land, including a drive or a garden, the skip will need to be placed on the road, requiring a skip permit. We will arrange this for you, but there will be an additional cost for this.

What is a permit, and when will you need one?

As mentioned above, if you need the skip to put placed on the road, you will need a permit from the council. Just let us know when you book or select roadside in our skip hire journey, and the permit charge will be added to your total hire cost. You must tell us that you need a permit before booking your skip to allow us enough time to acquire one from your local council.

Skip hire permits cost different amounts depending on your local council:

Skip hire Sheffield permit cost: £20.83 + VAT

Skip hire Chesterfield permit cost: £30.00 + VAT

Skip hire Barnsley permit cost: £30.00 + VAT

Skip hire Rotherham permit cost: £30.00 + VAT

Skip hire Worksop permit cost: £41.67 + VAT

Skip hire Doncaster permit cost: £30.00 + VAT

How long can you hire a skip for?

Our skip hire is a 7-day term as standard. However, this can vary depending on whether you have a permit and how long your local council will allow this permit to last. If you have filled your skip before the allocated collection date, just let us know through the online chat or by calling our team on 0114 2445006, and we will arrange a collection for you. We get extremely busy during the lead-up to Bank Holidays and cannot always guarantee a specific collection date. We also offer hire extensions, which cost £15.00 for each additional week you need it.
